(CNN) — Has Roger Federer recovered by his Wimbledon hangover? Can Serena Williams conquer injury to clinch a singles major?
Even the US Open, the seasons fourth and final important, starts August 26 at Flushing Meadows in New York. A record prize cash pot of over $57 million is up for grabs at the 139th edition of the Open, including $3.9 million to every singles champion. Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Naomi Osaka of Japan will be the defending champions.

Can Serena catch Court?
A champion Williams, in New York knows what is needed to triumph on home soil. Having taken New York by storm when she beat Martina Hingis of Switzerland to acquire what would be the first of the Open-era album haul of 23 grand slam singles titles, Williams is currently chasing history . The prior top-ranked American would be tied by victory in New York by the Margaret Court, the all-time Grand Slam singles record holder with 24 majors of Australia.
The No. 8 Williams comes with a tough draw this year, starting against former US Open champion Maria Sharapova at a blockbuster first round. Williams possesses a commanding 19-3 record over Russias former world No.1, who last defeat her in 2004. While the top-seeded Osaka may be her rival in the finals once more winner Ash Barty looms at the quarterfinals.
Even though the Williams has reached three major finals since coming back from maternity leave annually, she fell short twice at Wimbledon, and at last years US Open, where Osaka plus a row using all the umpire got the better of her. A day after losing an epic Wimbledon to Djokovic, Federer travelled caravanning with his loved ones. Having held two match points on serve in the final set, the Swiss stated he had beenhalf-broken from the four-hour, 57-minute game, but he still went on the caravan break following his four children begged him to go. Could Djokovic get to knock No. 17?
Since the winner of four of the past five majors, who will stop defending champion Djokovic in New York? The 32-year-old is the favorite to win his fourth title at Flushing Meadows. Having defeated Federer along with a partisan crowd Djokovic is back on his surface that is successful. Another major win will transfer him to one shy of Nadal 17 grand slam singles titles, also three behind Federer.
Djokovic starts his US Open quest against Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain, followed by a possible conflict with 2016 winner Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland or finalist Kevin Anderson of South Africa at the fourth round.
The only player would be the in-form Nadal, who won the title earlier this month. When his season ended at the US Open semifinals with a retirement from Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, the Spaniard is fit again following an injury-marred 2018. He performs his first game against Millman, while champion Marin Cilic of Croatia is a possible fourth-round opponent.

Can theNext Gen strike at last?
It is a question that is asked every time a significant comes along: is this the time the next creation will break the stranglehold of theBig Three in the mens game? Djokovic, Nadal and Federer have won a 54 grand slam singles titles.
The most successful player of the so-calledNext Gen in the majors is the 21-year-old Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, that reached his first major semi-final in this years Australian Open. Look out for 23-year-old Daniil Medvedev, who reached three straight hardcourt finals winning the title in Cincinnati. The Russian could meet Djokovic in the quarterfinals and passes the Open with a Tour-leading 44 wins this year. This year the Serb has been beaten by him double.
Could we find another surprise womens champion?
While young players are trying to break in mens tennis, the exact opposite is happening in the womens match, where 18 players won the first 18 names of the season. Require Australias along with Osaka Barty, who hadnt even gone past the fourth round of a major. Although Barty triumphed at Roland-Garros osaka now holds Australian Open titles and the US Open. After the stunning Wimbledon win of the Simona Halep, that dominated title favored Williams in straight places of Romania, would we be in for another surprise winner at the US Open?
With question marks looming over the fitness of Williams and Osaka, who retired by the Cincinnati quarterfinals with a knee injury, may be the year of Cincinnati winner and 2017 US Open finalist Madison Keys of the US, or Toronto and also Indian Wells winner Andreescu? Or will 15-year-old American CoriCoco Gauff pull off yet another stunning run after reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon?
Though Osaka has fought in the majors as Australia, she is back on her surface. The top seed of the women could face Gauff in around three, and begins against Anna Blinkova of Russia. While Andreescu is still a possible opponent halep opens from a qualifier.
